It’s been a while since we have found a great new burger in London worth writing about but the time has come in the form of Ichibuns! Ichibuns is a Japanese restaurant next to the W Hotel in Chinatown. Its a super cool restaurant specialising in Japanese Wagyu beef, so they feature beef in a lot of their food (including their Cheeseburger Spring Rolls – more on that later). The menu is not only beef though, they also have fresh sushi, noodle dishes, steamed buns, gyoza etc so there is something for everyone! The sushi looks really good but we were there to try the famous Wagyu beef!
Ichibuns also has a cocktail menu with unique yummy cocktails all served in super cute Boba cups! We had the Yuzu & Grapefruit Collins and the Grape Caipiroska – we had never seen a grape flavoured Caipiroska before and it was too good, with fresh grapes and grapefruit juice! Now onto the food, a friend recommended for us to try the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls and the Ichibuns Burger, so we ordered both, as well as the Wagyu beef steamed buns. We were very intrigued about the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls and they were everything we were expecting and more! Sadly we didn’t take any pics as they were devoured instantly but they are spring rolls with Wagyu burger beef inside, served with burger sauce – they are life changing! The steamed buns were okay, they were closed buns with only beef inside and not very much of it, so it was mainly bun – good but could have been better!
Now onto the burger… its a big statement but its definitely the cheesiest and dirtiest burger we have ever had! It has about three generous layers of cheese in it, one 30 day aged Wagyu beef patty, caramelised onion and burger sauce . The burger didn’t come with any salad inside but it was all so moist that it didn’t need anything else. The bun was a super soft brioche style bun and the meat was super soft too, as well as being full of flavour. The fries were also great, they were thinner than a typical fry so were very light but delish – on the whole it was a big thumbs up from us!
